You Can Help!!

If you would like to help us support the feeding and care expenses of our education animals and rehabiltation work, we would really appreciate it! We are a private organization and not currently listed as a certified 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and receive no routine funding to care for the animals we work with - all of our expenses are supported by our widlife education programs, occasional public donations, and using our own funds.

Our History

Carolina Mountain Naturalists was formed in the early 1980's in response to a growing need for quality nature educational programs which could travel to schools, camps, and other organizations. Since then, we have presented our presentations, classes, and workshops to thousands of people of all ages.

Some of Our Most Popular Educational Programs

Live Animal Presentations - Contact us for availability and program fees

Wild Encounters!

Let our naturalist surprise you with a visit from a variety of animal guests, chosen specifically for your group. This program may include one or more reptiles, amphibians, spiders, insects, birds, or mammal guests

Animals We Love . . . To Hate!

There are certain species of animals that many people fear and hate, largely due to prejudice and misinformation. Far from being pests or villains however, many of these creatures are actually beneficial to humans and play very important roles in the natural world. Assembled in this presentation are some of those animals that we seem to love . . . to HATE!!

Hunters in the Sky

Throughout the ages, birds of prey have fascinated us. But some people have also viewed these birds with disfavor because of their predatory instincts. Illegal shooting, trapping, loss of habitat, and pesticide poisoning have all drastically reduced their numbers. Now thanks to protective regulations and increased awareness, many of these raptors are making dramatic comebacks. In this program you'll meet some live raptors and learn about their day to day struggles to survive in our modern world.

Owls - Masters of the Night

These mysterious birds of prey are seldom seen due to their elusive and noctural lifestyle. In this program you will learn about the fascinating lives of these unusual birds and their unique adaaptations for life in the nightime world.

Appalachian Wild!

The southern Appalachian Mountains are home to an incredible diversity of both plant and animal life. From the high ridges to the low valleys, the varied topography of these mountains combine to create a unique blend of plant and animal communities. In this program you will meet some of the natural residents who make their home in the Appalachian WILD!

Reptile Roundup!

Lizards and turtles and snakes - oh my! Scaly creatures of all kinds surround you in this exciting look at the world of reptiles.

Snakes! Fact and Folklore

Snakes are probably the most abused and feared group of animals in existence. This is unfortunate because they are truly remarkable creatures that few of us appreciate or understand. In this program you will meet a variety of native snakes and learn to separate the facts from the fiction of these maligned creatures.
